Love Wins Here! How?

Love Wins Here! How?

Your child is missing, sinking deeper into addiction, no shelter, drug induced psychoses, multiple arrests, prison, medical complications, denying any problem, leaving AMA ...How in the world does love win here?

Have you noticed how much and how often you don't get what you want when your child is struggling with addiction? You desperately love your child, and desperately want them to be healthy and happy ... but so often we're left disappointed. The thing is Love doesn't promise we get our way or our timing. Those are conditions. Makes sense that we do that, but Love doesn't have conditions.

In this context, I will speak about Love - with a capital L. Because that's what wins, every time, always.

What hurts is when our minds resist this kind of truly unconditional love ... because of fear. What hurts even more is when our hearts follow this fear which then disconnects us from the full power of our own love to show up with more calm and clarity. The thing we want the most to give our child, this unconditional love, this connection, gets disempowered by fear. Ouch!

Love is so much stronger than fear though. Love is not concerned with future, it is eternal. Love is not concerned about destination, every now is the destination and it always leads back to itself - more Love. It's always present whether we're aware of it or not, and always inviting us back to Love, always patiently waiting for us to remember.

Love Wins Here is about getting our hearts and minds aligned with this when we can, as best we can. To do that, I really think we need to work through our fears, to unlearn the lies fear tells us, the lies that take us further away from Love. Because when we do, that's when it becomes easier to cultivate more compassion, kindness, patience, faith, and trust. That's when it becomes easier to access tools and strategies, to develop the skills needed to love someone through an addiction without losing yourself.

Capital L Love is carrying you, and carrying your child, carrying all of us. I find a deep peace when I welcome that as true. Love Wins Here, yes ~ even when it's rocky, even when it seems so overwhelmingly dark. Love does not leave you! Does not leave your child, ever! It can't. It won't. It may not look like or feel like it's winning, and it is. Through all time, through all things. I believe in a God who takes every little thing, every horror, every crisis and somehow transforms it with Love, beyond these times and circumstances.

It's easy to disconnect from that when fear, worry, guilt, anger, etc takes us for a ride. It's a human condition. We lose a sense of safety and scramble to get it back. Safety returns by going into these fears and caring for them, methodically, bringing us back to the greater awareness of Love in every now, to a quieter mind, a calmer body, connected. That is the way to find the kind of Truth than can set you free. When you're free, your child feels it. Love leads the rest of the way to empower our choices and options to do what we can, when we can.

That is Love in you, through you. That is Hope in Action. I think this is what we want the most, and what our children need the most. Thankfully it is available to receive, and to give.

Love Wins Here!

May peace be with you and your family.
